Abstract

This paper explores the aesthetic-philosophical assumptions that connect José Ángel Valente’s poetry with Mauricio Sotelo’s Spectral Flamenco. Although the Spanish composer musicalized different poems of José Ángel Valente throughout the nineties and the beginning of the current century, the most important project in which the composer and the poet worked together –an opera titled Mnemosine o el teatro de la memoria– was abandoned when Valente died. This paper examines some axial concepts of Flamenco, as well as of the Spectral music, in order to relate them to the notions of limit, listening and vibration in Valente’s poetry. This paper is part of a larger work that explores the links between Valente’s poetics and Spectral music.
