Abstract

Ideology has been one of the most important elements to explain the behavior of the vote towards parties. In Catalonia there has been a new process characterized by the rise of Catalan nationalism with various political parties that position identity as an element that also explains voting for parties in specific contexts. The study explains the evolution that ideology and identity have had in the voting components of the main Catalan political parties during the years 2010 to 2015, comparing the regional elections of these years. The methodology used is the quantitative one based on working with various databases in order to reach the conclusion that in 2015 identity is more important than ideology in the Catalan elections.
