Abstract

In this paper we go through the path that anthropology made in its beginnings through museums until it abandoned them, also abandoning the interest in material culture. We will follow this same path to review the historical relationship between the so-called ethnographic museums and the development of ethnography and anthropology in Galicia, a relationship necessary to create the mechanisms for the representation of identity images. We will finish this walk at the Museo do Pobo Galego as a reference ethnographic museum
