Abstract

This article proposes the hypothesis that the appearance of hyper-realism in culture - the search for the exact expression of reality in cultural works, aided by new reproduction techniques - has suppressed the work of culture: to bestow upon being human the ability to imagine alternative realities. With the aim of substantiating this hypothesis, we will go through both the approaches of Arthur Danto and Mark Fisher and those of Adorno and Marcuse, all of them denouncing the closure of our critical instance and the incapacity of our political instance. Finally, we will give our own opinion regarding the currency of the hypothesis.
