Abstract
This article analyzes the Galician military situation in the last decades of the 17thcentury focusingin three questions: the organization of the defence, the soldiers recruit and the naval activity. Theinvestigation has as its objectives to evaluate the decline of Galician naval structures and to look foran explanation of its decadence. It has been conducted with documents from the Archivo General deSimancas, las Actas de la Juntas del Reino de Galicia and also municipal documentation.
