Abstract

The colonization of Brazilian territory begins along the coast, based on the main cuttings of the coast, from where the journeys of interiorisation departed. The initial population settled in coastal cores, articulating the area that provides marketable genres and the oversea space into mercantilism logic, turning evident the strategic roles of the sea, the coast and the sailing in this process. From all of this, it remains marks and heritages in Brazilian territory until now. From the point of view of didactic processes, however, it is verified a lack of systematized materials that point out such questions, related to the sea, the coast and their distinct uses, as components in the production and organization of Brazilian geographic space. This article reports the production process and the result from a didactic material created in order to minimize such lack, titled “Mar, pesca e aquicultura: elementos para o estudo de Geografia do Brasil”, produced as a textbook at Santa Maria Federal University – UFSM
