The concept of “empire” has demonstrated to be very useful in the context of present political debatemarked by the so called “crisis of the State”. This essay offers some ideas about the very commonpresence of a critical understanding of State order in recent European historiography, stressingthe particularities and implications of such process for the Spanish case
