Childhood cultures on early childhood music and movement: constellations at play
Main Article Content
Abstract
Observing the complex and diverse musical world of children, in this text we aim to determine a specific focus on early childhood music education by articulating the concept childhood cultures with emphasis on children's music and movement activities. The objective is to define the structuring axes of the childhood cultures as proposed by Sarmento (2004) and to re-signify these terms in the light of active and creative pedagogies in music education. We illustrate scenes from the daily music and movement activities in a music school in Curitiba, southern Brazil, to weave a constellation of concepts and questions around the theme, focusing on the observation of the "child body" that makes music. We point out perspectives for teaching and learning music to children, whether in face-to-face or online modes, considering that the definitions presented help (re)defining a complex and comprehensive look that we take for the child in music and movement activities.
