Abstract

In this article we try to show the trade of the Rías Baixas in the 16th century, the most dynamic time in Galicia during the early modern history. Fishing, axis of the economy in this area, it related to the coastal fishing, specially, the autumnal sardine, which, packed in pipes, it was distributed around the Peninsular coast. This structure had guild foundations, which didn’t allow developing for ages. Unable to improve, Galicia couldn’t to keep the competition with other fishing countries, which works in the North Sea without feudal links and taking part of the production ways which betoken the capitalism economy.
