Abstract

This article analyzes Spanish public opinion under the Old Regime. This wasclosely linked to certain pressure groups, related to the power elite’s. These messages elite’screated a favourable or critical image of the monarchy, according to their own interests, andinfluenced the collective mentality, especially in certain situations such as the decline ofthe late sixteenth century, the crisis of 1640, the wars with France and the War of SpanishSuccession.
