Victor Gutiérrez Castillo
Dr Victor Luis Gutiérrez Castillo joined the University of Jaen (www.ujaen.es) in 2010 as a Lecturer in Public International Law. In Jaen (Spain) he leads the International Studies Group and the International Law Department. He undertakes research on Law of the Sea, refugee movements, Islam and human rights. He also teaches online postgraduate courses on human rights at the Open University of Catalonia (www.uoc.edu).
Before joining Jaen he was a lecturer in University of Cordoba (www.uco.es), CEADE-Wales University (http://www.ceade.es) and International University of Andalusia (www.unia.es), where he taught extensively on public international law, European law and international human rights law, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Likewise, he was Chief of the Department of Institutional and Academic Relations of International Institute of Arab and Muslim World Studies (Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, www.casaarabe.es), Vice-Rector of the International University of Andalusia, and President of the Youth Council in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.
He was Visiting Professor at Université Paris X, Ouest-Nanterre (France, Paris), Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli (Roma, Italy), Universidad de la República del Uruguay (Montevido, Uruguay), Universidad Autónoma de Colombia and Université Abdel Malek Essadi (Tanger, Maroc).
He is currently a member of several international research networks, including the Institut Économique du Droit de la Mer in Monaco (member of the Scientific Council) (www.indemer.org) and the Network of Experts on the Legal Aspects of Maritime Safety and Security (www.marsafenet.org). He has numerous publications and he lectured in various universities in France (Université Paris-Sorbonne, Université de Perpignan Via Domitia, Université de Nantes…), USA (Virginia Commonwealth University, Ohio University), Italy (Università del Sannio, Università di Salento, Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza", Università Orientale di Napoli…), Marocco (Université Abdel Malek Essadi, Université Mohammed V…) and Cuba (Universidad de La Habana), El Salvador (Instituto Especializado de Educación Superior para la Formación Diplomática, IEESFORD), Argentine (Universidad de Ciencias Empresariales y Sociales), Colombia (Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Tunja, Universidad Autónoma de Colombia) and Uruguay (Universidad de la República).
