Abstract

The aim of the article is to analyze the first stage of the institutionalization of Social Anthropology in Spain from its foundation (1969-1974) until the approval of the Degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology in 1991 as a result of the University Reform Law (1983). The professional consolidation of anthropologists and a polycentric institutionalization project derived from the Law are described. The methodological approach is a generational model to explain the process, as well as the strategies of the professional group involved. The article is based on historiographical, ethnographic and oral sources.
