The Jean Gebser Mutations of the Consciousness: a Critical Revision from the Biological and Cultural Evolution
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this article, we develop a series of appreciations and considerations about the ideas of Gebser on the structures of consciousness and the emergence of a new one. To explain their emergence he used the metaphor of “mutations”. New knowledge in Evolutionary biology is useful to enhance and add value to his ideas. From biological evolution, in humans arises cultural evolution and both are essential for the development of consciousness. Evolution means change over time and the latter concept is crucial to Gebser. We think that mastering the time will characterize the new integral structure of human consciousness proposed by Gebser.
