Abstract

This paper proposes a philosophical and historical analysis of the concept of political representation. Starting from the traditional conception that defines representation as the presence of an absence, we’ll discuss the different views that have been proposed by different political traditions —democratic politics, liberalism and the revolutionary tradition—, and we’ll see the implications in several orders involving each.
