Abstract

This paper intends to revise Popper’s controversy about Darwin’s theory of evolution. It is mentioned the presence of notions and examples of Darwinian theory in his writingsdating from the thirties, his doubt about evolutionism as a result of his refutation of historicismin the forties and the subsequent attempts to recover its scientific status in thesixties. Although Popper claimed that his social and political thought is mainly based onepistemology, this sequence (in his writings) makes us wonder whether his epistemologicalproject as well as the rest of his thought are not based on his social and political values. Thepaper proposes that Popper’s desire to refute the intended scientific status of Marxism theory might have been the reason that made him question Darwin’s theory, which he was alwayswilling to accept.
