Abstract

The aim of this work is to analyze the controversy generated by the feminist mural in Concepción (Madrid), which happened in 2021, as an example of “cultural war”. Therefore, we shall reflect on the concept of “cultural war” from a sociological perspective. And we shall relate it with the construction of moral panics, a media event associated with these incidents, and with cultural policies. The case study shall identify different stages, which question the moral panics classical periodization, related to the changing position of participating agents. Finally, the idea of “cultural war” shall be understood as a conflict among different selective traditions in Spanish society.
