Abstract
The digitization of the information society is built on a complex technological base. whose operation requires a computing infrastructure that has been growing over the last decades. The general perception of technology considers that its environmental impact is low, underlining the importance of the use of ICT to continue essential social and economic activities in extraordinary time coordinates marked by a serious health crisis on a global scale. However, these technological devices have a serious environmental impact with their manufacture, consumption and subsequent disposal, the repercussions of which need to be addressed. In this work, an interdisciplinary bibliographic review is carried out on the material impact of ICT devices and the role of education in communication matters to promote a media competence of citizens that advocates an environmentally friendly consumption of screens is then discussed and capable of favoring the acquisition of the Sustainable Development Goals
