The Crown's decision, in the mid XVIIIth century, to create the most important arsenal of their Navy in the harbour of Ferrol brought along many important changes from a social, economic and demographic point of view, both in the town itself and its inmediate surroundings. The town became, in a short time, the most crowded urban centre of the Kingdom of Galicia, due to the strenght of inmigration flow. In the same way, its social and economic structure changed completely, promoting ever since jobs related, directly or indirectly, to the Navy, reducing activities linked to the primary sector.
