In the Modern Extremadura during the Old Regime the holding of a heritage for the motherless has a great importance due to the little social relevance of the child. The value of inherited possessions has a double meaning, material and social, since it represents the subsistence way of the child and it constitutes an incentive for the family and neighbours solidarity towards the child. Preoccupation of the parents about this subject have been studied using different notarial sources. Furthermore, the analysis of heritage management by tutors has shown the administrative politics conducted to keep the heritage and the effects of them on the life of the children.
