After reading historical and classical works refered to Greek and Roman world, in this article we reflect of the lessons that the European military men of XVI and XVII centuries coved learn from those works about warfare. Our conclusions are that the wars during the Early Modern Age had nothing to do with the ancient Greek and Roman wars. Consequently, the study of the Greek and Roman authors was a mere academical work. In spite of that, as the army sumitted to a hard discipline was the key for the triumph in a battle and the sole reference describing this importance was in the works of Greek and Roman authors, these works continued to be of great importance.
