The Kingdom of Aragon kept up with its peculiar medieval military duties along 16th century, tough that did not impede their natives to become deeply committed to the military defense of the Spanish monarchy along the end of the century. In 17th century, the catalan War of Secession (1640-1652) led the kingdom, as directly concerned about the events, to face the highest military fiscal servicio of the century, in spite of the facts that this tax duty was considered voluntary (in appearance), clergy and noblemen were duty-free, the defense of the aragonese territory needed aditional resources, and there had been aditional pacts agreed at the Cortes (parliament) between its members and the king. Embodied within that context, this study deals with how conscription took place and war men were set up ready for war in the Kingdom of Aragon during the catalan struggle.
