This articles has the aim investigating the relationships between vassals and lords within the framework of a feudal regime on the basis of the example of the Household or Estate of the Count of Grajal de Campos (Province of Leon, Spain). These relations were shaped both by the lord's powers to dispense justice and by the bonds of finantial dependence or feudal dues. There were the origin of a number of legal conflicts whose outcomes, while they did contribute to strengthening the position of the overlords, also showed the capacity of the communities to exert leverage.
