Abstract

The aim of this article is not to make a biography of the Cardinal Mr. Antolín Monescillo y Viso (1811-1897), but to pay attention on his familiar backgrounds and in the bundle of circumstances and relationships which encouraged his upstroke. We expect to excced the individual vision of the character in order to be concerned by the causes what made it possible. It is an analysis what will discover to us a different dimension 01'the character from the offered ones until the moment since it has been introduced to us as the culmination of a social mobility process where the relational capital and the fabric of institutional and personal resources accumulated by the family along the pass of the time would bear fruit. As conclusion, we can check that the exclusive choice of the individual as a unity of observation is not enough for the comprehension of the social system operation mechanism. On the contrary, the study of families, trajectories and relationships is becoming a very productive method of explanalion for the historian.
