Abstract

This essay studies the recent literature about domestic trade in Early Modern Spain. It aims first to define what we can understand by domestic trade. Then a methodological outline is made about the main topics that should be studied with reference to domestic trade, namely, social organisation of demand, products actually demanded and their geographical areas of circulation, institutions and persons dealing with these trades. The historiography has made big advances in the last decades and we know now many aspects of the domestic trade, that was important at times, but there is still much to know about domestic trade, specially with respect to merchant companies of the interior capital cities.
