"But if... , and if..., just in case...". To ensure the survival of the household in the Altoaragon at the Early Modern Age
Main Article Content
Abstract
The nuptial agreements and the testaments done by notaries from a small region of Altoaragón show that already at the end of the 16th century and beginning of the 17th the model of transmission of property was perfectly defined. This model was based on the continuity of the house and implemented various strategies to achieve this objective, being characteristic of the Aragonese Pyrenees and partly similar to other Spanish and European mountainous areas. But also the above mentioned documentation evidences the presence of singularities as the almost systematic renunciation of the chartered widowhood, which included the right of the surviving spouse to the usufruct of family assets, or the particularities of the marriages to brotherhood.
