Abstract

The impact of invasive species has increased through the last few decades, generating important environmental, economic and health effects. Here, a review is made about the problems associated to biological invasions, focusing on the changes in the scientific research along the last decades. According to the European Commission project DAISIE (Delivering Alien Invasive Species Inventories for Europe), more than 12000 non native species are currently registered for Europe, which shows the relevance of this issue, highlighting the need to a multidisciplinary approach, with international cooperation, in order to improve the management of these organisms.
