Abstract

This work sets out to examine the reform of the territorial model implemented by Joseph I during his brief reign. The monarch attempted to correct imperfections in territorial administration by dividing the kingdom into prefectures. The law underlying the new model of civil government of the people was the Decree of 17 April 1810, designing a map consisting of 38 prefectures and 108 sub-prefectures. The study will focus on an analysis of the application of the prefecture system in Granada between 1810 and 1812, years, when the city was occupied by the French troops, which was not free of problems and was subject to the difficulties of the war.
