Abstract

This study analyzes the concept of gender violence, its legal regime and mechanisms of control within the Inter-American System of Human Rights (ISHR).
It seeks to address the phenomenon from the American regional perspective, little known in Europe. Thus, the connection will be established between the regulation of gender violence in the American region and international universal perspectives.
It shows that, immediately after the adoption of the Belém do Pará Convention, the Commission took the initiative to make visible the violence against women, and proceeded to investigate the early cases. Still, the first cases came to the Court much later. In this context, the practice of the Commission and the Court will be studied.
