Abstract

In the German context John Brown was one of the best known and most influential physicians in medicine and philosophy. However, John Brown´s influence has gone unnoticed in academia, when in fact it is decisive for understanding Hegel´s metaphilosophy. This research first contextualizes Browns importance in German medicine and philosophy in order to explain Hegel´s strange note to §359 of his Enciclopedia. There Hegel points out that with Brown “Idealism begins”.
