Abstract
The article discusses a recently published work which examines journalistic treatment of immigration in the Canary Island press. Following the findings of the work, it reviews the effects of bad journalistic praxis and professional irresponsibility in the treatment of this issue. It concludes with a broader reflection on the relationship between applied ethics and journalism, stressing the need for selfregulation that contributes to the necessary assumption of responsibilities in this crucial activity.
