Abstract

Riparian forests constitute a habitat of interest due to their importance as a regulatory element and their richness in biodiversity. This study provides new chorological information on 18 vascular plants detected in the Barcés River basin (A Coruña, Galicia, Spain), collected during fieldwork of a study on the conservation status of the riparian forest and other communities that occur near the river. Species such as Melica uniflora or Allium ursinum represent a disjunction from their main mountain areas in the interior of Galicia, and others like Helleborus foetidus are indicators of neutral or basic soils. Five species are threatened according to the Galician red list. The interest of the floristic element of the Barcés basin is discussed. We suggest it should be included in the Galician network of protected areas.
