Abstract

This article examines the relationship of immigration and security with satisfaction with democracy in the Andean countries: Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru. It is based on a quantitative methodology based on data from the Latinobarómetro 2023, which includes two stages: the first, based on descriptive statistics; and the second, involving a binary logistic regression model. Perceptions in the Andean countries were analyzed in terms of: satisfaction with democracy (below the regional average); immigration (seen as harmful and causing an increase in crime); and types of violence and concern about it (on the streets and a lot of concern). After performing a binary logistic regression statistical model, the main results were: statistical relevance of four independent variables (of the 295 tested) grouped into a) economic and social factors, b) institutional and domestic policy factors, c) security factors, and d) foreign policy factors. The main conclusion is that immigration and insecurity are at the root of satisfaction with democracy in the Andean countries.
