Resumen

La tomografía de rayos X es una técnica que se desarrolló a mediados del siglo XX con aplicaciones básicamente médicas que después se extendieron al ámbito industrial, incluyendo las museísticas. En este sentido se empezó a utilizar en el campo de la arqueología y el patrimonio y también destaca su uso en el ámbito de la Historia Natural, en especial en el mundo de los fósiles y la paleontología. En este trabajo presentamos varios ejemplos de aplicación de esta técnica en diversos ejemplares del Museo de Historia Natural de la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela analizados con recursos tomográficos de la propia Universidad. Estos ejemplares son fósiles de mamut, meteoritos, piezas de taxidermia y conchas de gasterópodos. La finalidad del estudio es presentar la versatilidad de la técnica en cuanto a los objetos que pueden ser tomografiables y contribuir a expandir el uso de este método en piezas de museo con objetivos de conservación, investigación y divulgación.
