Author Guidelines

The official languages of the journal are Spanish and English. Exceptionally, the Editorial Board may consider the publication of papers in other languages (galicish, portuguese, german, Italian). Submission of a paper for publication implies that it is an original work not being considered for publication elsewhere.

The publication of the works will produce  usually four or five months from the moment of reception of the same. Nevertheless, this comes conditioned to that the evaluations are positive and the authors do not have to enter modifications, to proposal of the reviewers.

The authors will have to include their name, the academic degree that possess and their current place or professional occupation.

1. The papers should be typed in single spacing, in DIN-A4 size pages, with wide margins all round. The full stops should be indicated separating the text of the new paragraph with a double return of line spacing

2. The suggested minimum and maximum length for each type of submission is as follow:

  • a) Articles: 25-40 pages DIN-A4.
  • b) Notes and Comparative and International Law: 10-25 pages DIN-A4.
  • c) Commentaries on Jurisprudence: 10-15 pages DIN-A4.
  • d) Book Reviews: 2-4 pages DIN-A4.
  • e) News: 1-3 pages DIN-A4.

3. The papers should be submitted in Word or Word Perfect, so on (for PC or Macintosh). Full stops should be indicated separating the text of the new paragraph with a double return of line spacing.

4. The pages should be numbered consecutively. The following information should appear on the first page: full title, author's full name and affiliations. An abstract of not more than 150 words and up to five keywords should be included for doctrinal articles and comparative and international law notes. The title, the abstract and the keywords must also appear in Spanish.

5. References should be cited in text by author's surname, publication year and page. For three or more authors "et al." (without italics) should be used after the first surname. If multiple references are cited they should be ordered alphabetically and then by publication year, with author's names separated by a semicolon.

Publications cited in the text should be provided in a separate list of references. The following order should be observed for publications cited in footnotes.

6. If  tables, graphs or illustrations are included:

  • a) Tables should be typed in double spacing, without vertical lines. They should be numbered consecutively, according to their sequence in the text. Each table or picture should be a brief main title (Ex.: Table 1: "..."; Picture 1: "...") and any essential explanation about used symbols or the used sources should be given at the bottom of the table. Authors should be indicated clearly in the text where the tables and pictures should appear with the directive “Place Table 1 ______”.
  • b) The graphs, illustrations or images, numbered consecutively, should be provided as TIFF or JPG format at a minimum resolution of 150 points or pixels for inch. Authors should indicate clearly in the text where should appear it with the directive “Place Graph 1… ”.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The request has not been previously published, or presented to another journal (or an explanation has been given in Comments to the editor).
  • If the paper contains any kind of material whose reproduction requires for permission, please indicate this circumstance (using Comments to the editor). Authors are responsible for respecting intellectual property when they reproduce materials as part of their works and must send the corresponding permissions to the journal.
    The editor, in any case, is free of any responsibility resulting from the author’s eventual violation of intellectual property rights.
  • The text fulfills the bibliographic and stylistic requirements indicated in Norms for authors.
  • If you are applying to a section of the journal which is reviewed by pairs, you should make sure that the instructions in Guaranteeing a blind review are followed.

When publishing in Estudios Penales y Criminológicos, the author/authors cedes/cede all the exploitation rights of his/her/their article (including distribution, public communication, reproduction and transformation) to the University of Santiago de Compostela, which, under the conditions and within the restrictions stated in the legislation on intellectual property, is the holder of the copyright and, therefore, of all the patrimonial rights expressed, while the author/authors maintain all the moral rights corresponding to them by the law (art. 14 TRLPI).

Not withstanding the above considerations, all contents of this edition, except where otherwise noted, are distributed open access under a Creative Commons BY NC ND 4.0 international license. Privacy Statement

In accordance with organic law 3/2018, of December 5, on the protection of personal data and guarantee of digital rights and with EU Regulation 2016/679, the data collected will be incorporated by the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) in the treatment "Service of Publications and Scientific Exchange" with the purpose of managing the authors and/or managers and users of the monographic works and journals edited by the Service of Publications and Scientific Exchange.

The body responsible for said treatment is the University of Santiago de Compostela with registered office at Praza do Obradoiro s/n, 15782, Santiago de Compostela.

The justification basis for this treatment is the consent expressed by the interested parties.

Interested persons can exercise their rights of access, rectification, deletion, treatment limitation, opposition and portability through the USC Electronic Office

In the case of not providing consent, the data will not be processed, but the service cannot be offered.

The data will be kept for the period in which the purpose for which they were collected is carried out, or the time necessary to comply with legal obligations. Once the purpose has been fulfilled, the data that are not part of the provision of the public service will be blocked until the applicable limitation periods have elapsed.
