Abstract

This article seeks to explain, briefly and concisely, the changes undergone by Galician villages and towns in the last 50 years. Large cities, in particular A Coruña and Vigo, will not be considered here, as they have had a considerably different evolution since the XIX century. I will focus on describing four types of village and town societies, which will be easily recognized by most readers over 50 years old, whether they have lived there or not.The interpretation offered in this article is not, of course, the only one possible. The purpose here is just to share analytical ideas about some past and present Galician societies, and some reflections about their possible future.
