Abstract

In the Western Sahara conflict have been numerous the public and private actors involved, Spanish and Sahrawi. There are different actors, in some cases, they have become a citizen movement with specific characteristics and also have been maintained over time. For over three decades they have carried out various actions which have resulted in projects of development cooperation, awareness projects, twinning between municipalities, holiday program for children, etc. Likewise there have been initiatives to support the protest demands for self-determination raised by the Sahrawi people.
This article aims to analyze the evolution of the role of these actors and points out some perspectives for the future in a context of major political and economic uncertainties. In this regard, it should be noted that two events can influence this issue, the economic crisis affecting Europe, and particularly Spain, and the so-called “Arab Spring”.
