Analysis of the situation of the punitive regulations on animal welfare in the livestock industry, are there still areas where progress can be made?
Main Article Content
Abstract
Policies which improve and guarantee Animal Welfare have been demanded by civil society for decades, within a sense of awareness about the improvement of the quality of life, respect and defense of both production and companion animals. This concept has been evolving and expanding in order to understand that this welfare must reflect a state of complete mental and physical health of the animal which helps him to be in perfect harmony with the environment. This article attempts to analyze where the legislation on Animal Welfare in Galicia is and its sanctioning regime as a mechanism for coercion and / or correction of certain behaviors, and, based on this, the possible regulatory advances which could still be necessary to achieve an optimal objective of Animal Welfare in our livestock farms.
