Abstract

This paper presents a tentative philosophical approach to Nussbaum and the current version of the list of basic human capabilities, contrasting the normative assumptions with those of the notion of the Living Forest, put forward by the Amazonian Women and the proposal of Kawsak Sacha-Selva Viviente. Focusing on the notions of capacities and life, an analysis is offered based on the core concepts of both conceptions: human flourishing and the Living Forest. And a mirror image of the list is elaborated, to conclude with the need to present proposals, to build bridges between separate notions that can dialogue.
